Winning Entries Through the Years
Blue Busket - Cheyenne Burdick
This photo shows the fun and quirky side of the antique shop/flea market trade in this area. Antique/flea markets are a very valuable part of the tourist trade in North Berrien County.
Lake Effect - Josh Stibal
Sarett Nature Center - Cade Krieger
Showing the beauty of the Nature Center.
Interesting Algae - Josh Stibal
Algae-Goo found on Little Paw Paw Lake in the morning.
Bainbridge Township Hall - Lora Heinz
This building caught my eye, and I thought that is a country-style building. North Berrien County has maintained the country feel, and this building still has that. No neighborhood subdivisions near it or other businesses as many township halls have.
Flaherty Park Stream - Barry Nelson
This photo was taken in Flaherty Park, one block east of Main Street in Watervliet. This creek meanders thru Flaherty Park. This park is often used by photographers all year long. A disc golf course follows along the stream and makes a nice picnic area under the pavilion. Using a neutral density filter on my camera lens allowed me to slow down the shutter speed to create the smooth silky appearance as water flows over the rocks. I liked the contrast of the water as it flowed over the rocks. The waterways in Berrien County provide entertainment, fishing and beauty that attract tourism. Photo was taken mid afternoon. I used a Canon 7D Markii with a Tamron 16x300 lens.
Apples - Barry Nelson
Fruit in general represents a great importance of Berrien county employment, with quality fruit and vegetables providing wealth to the producers and employees, and wholesome fruit to the world.
Glorious Autumn - Charlene Durfee
Our Michigan trees give us so much – cleaning the air, shading us and providing so much beauty. AND the leaves! If you live in Southwest Michigan, long before you get buried in snow, you get buried in leaves! In the picture, two generations of our family are working together in the beauty of our yard.
Springtime in Coloma - Susan Stewart
Springtime in Coloma, was taken with a Canon 7D Camera on May 3, 2013 at 5:45 PM. North Berrien County has always been an agricultural area. This old red barn is typical of barns built and used on farms over the years.
Cherry Time - Lily Stark
“I love this time of year.” Michigan is the leading grower of tart cherries in the United States. The most prolific is the Montmorency, shown here.
Was Will Be - Stephen Parrigin
As I walked down the stairs, it represented to me “What was”. As I take the picture and walk out, I realize that it represents “What will be”. History is about the past and the future. This picture was taken on August 5, 2012 at 2:00pm with a Nikon Coolpix L810 camera.
Fire and Ice -Donna Duffield
February 17, 2011, I was able to capture this sunrise shot off of Paw Paw Lake Road. I chose to label it “Fire and Ice” because of the way the sun is meeting the ice on the lake. Paw Paw Lake is a vital part of northern Berrien County as its lakes offer our area an opportunity for tourism and revenue all throughout the year. The camera used for this photo is a Fujifilm FinePix s8100.
Peach Festival Ready - Barry Nelson
The Peach Festival is celebrated in Coloma each year. This festival attracts many people into the downtown area as well as nearby communities. The mixture of colorful fruit and foliage makes a beautiful photograph. Agriculture is one of the largest employers in North Berrien County.
Chasing Seagulls - Sandra Johnson
Chasing Seagulls never gets old when you’re 7 years old. Shot at Hagar Park around 3pm. With a Samsung S8 smart phone camera. Family visiting form the west coast to escape the smoke filled air and contemplating moving 'home' to North Berrien County.
Foggy Morning - Frank Vetroba
This [photograph] attempts to capture the ambiance of the quiet early mornings available on our local area lakes. Getting these photographs depends on being in the right place at the right time because the window of opportunity quickly disappears. Foggy mornings on lakes have their own special character to be enjoyed before the sun burns the fog away .
Ferris Wheel - Deb Hammermeister
This photo depicts three iconic aspects of north Berrien County living. It combines the ferris wheel, originally from Deer Forest, Jollay Orchards, and a beautiful Michigan sunset.
Misty Paw Paw Lake - Dave Wheeler
Paw Paw Lake has been the centerpiece of North Berrien county for many decades. Over the years, thousands of people, both local and tourists, have made the Coloma and Watervliet area their destination because of this marvelous inland lake. As the temperatures begin to cool in the early fall, the lake becomes shrouded with early morning mist. Nikon D610 DSLR.
Winter Twilight - Dave Wheeler
Great wintry scenes on Paw Paw Lake Golf Course
Hagar Township Park - Richard Lyon
One of many public beaches on Lake Michigan’s eastern shoreline provides recreational opportunities in all seasons of the year, but is used heavily during the summer months. This August morning the surf was up and no swimming was permitted, but this group found enjoyment in building Sand Castles. Taken on a Nikon D-50 at Hagar Park, Hagar Township; time of day 11:30 am.
Angling Road Landmark - Richard Lyon
This location depicts the versatility of Agriculture in our area. We have a foreground of grain culture, a background of fruit orchards, and a woodlot at the horizon. This was taken in Bainbridge Township in late Fall. It was near mid-day using a digital Canon A 630 camera.
