The national Communist Party held a secret meeting in the sand dunes of Bridgman in 1922. Members took circuitous routes, weaving their way from around the country, and changing trains/boats often to avoid being tailed.
However, an informant spilled the beans, and the Feds raided the meeting. In the end, none of those arrested served time, though one case did reach the US Supreme Court.
