The Potawatomi are an Algonquin-speaking people who have lived in the Great Lakes region for at least four centuries. In their language, the word Potawatomi means “Keepers of the Sacred Fire.” The Pokagon band of Potawatomi Indians remains in the area today, preserving cultural traditions and autonomy as a federally recognized Native American nation.
Cecil Wilson from the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi will appear at the North Berrien Historical Museum to present “Pokagon Band of Potawatomi History.”
