Have you ever wondered what the men and women working on the railroad did all the live-long day?
Nearly everyone has an ancestor who worked for a railroad, but records don't often describe what the job entailed, and some of the job titles may not lend any clues. Railroad historian Mark Tomlonson will try to clear up what those jobs were, what a typical day was like, and some of the dangers involved.
Tomlonson worked as Chief Engineer for Kalamazoo’s National Public Radio affiliate WMUK for nearly 40 years and has been a fan of railroads for as long as he can remember. He is a member of the Kalamazoo Model Railroad Historical Society.
