Annual Members-Only Meeting—Millburg Bank Robbery

  • North Berrien Historical Museum 300 Coloma Avenue Coloma, MI, 49038 United States (map)

The Annual Members-Only Meeting is reserved for North Berrien Historical Society Members. The meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. There will be a made-to-order style dinner prepared by La Chula.

The evening program on the Millburg Bank Robbery will be presented by Peter Cook, NBHM Programs Director. On the morning of February 21, 1925, Miss Elizabeth Kreitner and Mr. Ben Kral opened the Millburg State Bank, prepared for what they thought would be a routine Saturday. However, their first customers were anything but ordinary. Dressed in trench coats and armed with a revolver, the two men forced the tellers into the back closet and looted the bank. While the robbery only lasted a few minutes, the subsequent car chase, manhunt, and trial would long be remembered as one of Southwest Michigan's most dramatic crimes of the 1920s.
